Be sure to check out "The Fun Stuff!" tab to watch our Thanksgiving Readers' Theater performances! We had so much fun practicing our expressive reading while preparing for these!
The optional Thanksgiving break assignment is due Monday for students who chose to complete it.
December is always a very busy time at school. There are many important upcoming events:
*Wednesday, December 2nd is our day to visit the school Santa Shop. Students who plan to purchase gifts for friends and family will need to bring their money on this day.
*This year will be the Fourteenth Annual “Gifts from the Heart” food drive. Every year, the Monroe School Community joins together to help those living in Monroe who are in need of assistance during the holidays. Each grade level will be responsible for donating selected items. Second grade is in charge of baking goods (cake mix, icing, brownie mix, flour, salt, sugar, etc.). The collection will run from November 30th to December 11th.
*Tuesday, December 15th we will be making gingerbread houses! We are still in need of supplies for this activity. If you would like to send something in, please sign-up using the link below. Many thanks to everyone who has already signed up!

-We are still in need of many candles for an upcoming activity. If you have old, used, new, or unwanted candles, please send them our way! We can use pillars, tapers, votives, or melting wax (really anything that isn't in a container). Please send candles in by December 7th. Thank you for your help!
*Wednesday, December 16th from 1:00-2:00 will be our class holiday party! I will be sending out a Google Doc sign-up for anyone who would like to send in items for the party or volunteer to run a station.
*Thursday, December 17th we will snuggle into our pajamas to watch the movie Happy Feet! We will be going to the auditorium for a special viewing of the movie and will also be reading some nonfiction about penguins so we can compare what we know about penguins to what the movie shows. A permission slip for the movie will be coming home soon!
*Thursday, December 17th is also students' last day before the Winter Break!
*Friday, December 18th through Sunday, January 3rd is Winter Break! We return to school on Monday, January 4th.
I told you this is a busy time of year! :)
This week we will be learning...
Word Study: Instead of studying a spelling pattern, we will be learning about compound words. There is no spelling test this week.
Math: We will begin our study of graphs. This week we will be looking at different ways to collect and organize data based on similar attributes.
Reading: We will be comparing and contrasting nonfiction texts about similar topics. This is in preparation for next week when we will be comparing and contrasting multiple versions of the fictional story of the Gingerbread Man.
Writing: Our animal research projects continue! This week we will learn how to turn the information we gathered during our research into complete sentences which can be used in our writing.
Social Studies: We will examine how things change over time by taking a look at the findings of students who completed the optional assignment over break.
Poetry: Our poem for the week is called, "Something Told the Wild Geese."
Have a wonderful week!
