I will be collecting last week's homework on Monday. No additional homework will be assigned for this week.
The second grade music performance will be held this Tuesday, February 24th at 7:00. Students will need to wear something nice and school appropriate and meet in the cafeteria at 6:45.
The second evening of spring conferences is Thursday, March 26th. Please let me know if you would like to schedule a conference, or if you would like an update on your child via phone or email.
This week we will be learning...
Math: We will be looking at skip counting patterns and talking about how skip counting can help us to add efficiently, especially in the case of coins. If we have two dimes, a nickel, and three pennies, for example, we can use skip counting to quickly add them up: 10 --> 20 --> 25 --> 26 --> 27 --> 28
Reading: We will wrap up our work as "Word Detectives" and spend some time in small groups practicing reader's theaters to improve our fluency.
Writing: This week we will begin our study of persuasive/opinion writing. When we write persuasively, there are different topics we can choose from. For example, we might write to get something, to change something, or to give our opinion about something. We will be learning about the different types of persuasive writing, and then trying it out ourselves!
Word Study: Our spelling patterns for the week are short u and long u with silent e.
Social Studies: In honor of Presidents' Day, we will be doing some reading about presidents of the past.
Poetry: Our poem this week is called, "How to Talk to Your Snowman." How appropriate!
Have a great week!
