I truly enjoyed talking with each of you who came to conferences on Thursday night. I loved sharing the great things your children are doing at school! Tuesday night is the second evening of conferences, and I look forward to meeting with many of you then!
This week we will be learning...
Math: We will wrap up our study of data collection and graphing buy collecting data on how many teeth we have lost and compiling it into a bar graph.
Reading: We will be looking at connections between a series of historical events by reading several biographies and placing important events onto a timeline.
We will also spend time this week rehearsing our readers' theater plays. Each student has been assigned a role in a short play ("Arthur's Thanksgiving," "Squanto and the Pilgrims," and "The Turkey Ran Away"). This is a fun way for us to prepare for the upcoming holiday, as well as a great opportunity for us to practice our expressive and fluent reading skills. We will "perform" our plays next week. I will record them and post them to the website!
Writing: Now that we have studied the five components of letters, we're reading to begin writing our own!
Poetry: Our poem this week is called, "Lunch Box, Lunch Box."
Word Study: Our spelling patterns for the week are:
Short –e (CVC and CVVC (ea)) and Long –e (CVVC (ee) and CVVC (ea))
-Short –e (CVC) words: sled, when
-Short –e (CVVC (ea)) words
-Long –e (CVVC (ee)) words: dead, head, breadtrees, queen, street
-Long –e (CVVC (ea)) words: each, seat, east
Sight Words I Can Spell: big, went, are, come if
Sight Words I Can Read: home, house, people, box, girl
Social Studies: We will be looking at the ways interactions among cultures lead to sharing ways of life (i.e. jewelry, art, celebrations, school, stories, clothes, food).
*Since we only have school Monday and Tuesday next week, I will not post a weekly update to the website. We will be continuing our study of the concepts for this week, as well as discussing some of the history behind Thanksgiving.
As I reflect on the Thanksgiving season, I am thankful for the joy of teaching your children. I hope this season brings you much to be thankful for as well. Have a happy holiday!
