Many thanks to all who participated in the Family Science Night. I believe it was a huge success. I hope you all had as much fun as I did!
First quarter report cards went home on Friday. Please remove the report card from the envelope, sign the envelope, and return it to school ASAP. I will reuse the envelopes each quarter.
This week is Red Ribbon Week and the theme is "A Healthy Me is Drug Free!" To show our support, we will be doing something different each day of the week:
-Monday: "I'm Too Bright for Drugs!" Wear BRIGHT colors!
-Tuesday: "Walk Away From Drugs!" Wear silly socks! Staff and students bring in socks/hats/scarves/gloves/blankets to donate to local shelters to prepare for winter.
-Wednesday: "Hooked on Books, Not on Drugs!" We will have a special time set aside for silent reading.
-Thursday: "Being Drug Free Comes in Cans: I can, you can, we can!" Staff and students bring in cans for food drive.
-Friday: "Team Up Against Drugs!" Wear team spirit apparel.
If you have not already done so, please follow the link below to sign up for parent-teacher conferences. They will be here soon!

This week we will be learning...
Math: We will continue practicing counting by groups, and we will start looking at decomposing numbers into tens and ones.
Reading: In order to show that we've fully understood a text we've read, we need to be able to answer AND ask questions about it. This week we will focus on answering and asking questions (who, what, when, where, why, how) about nonfiction texts in order to demonstrate our understanding.
Writing: We will begin revising and editing our "How To" pieces.
Poetry: Our poem this week is called, "The Fieldmouse."
Word Study: Our spelling pattern for the week is Short -o (CVC) and Long -o (CVCe and CVVC): box, drop, stop, stone, slope, chose, road, float, toad
Sight Words I Can Spell: what, so, see, not, were
Sight Words I Can Read: live, draw, clean, grow, best
Science: We did not get to all of our force and motion experiments last week, so we will spend time this week catching up!
Enjoy the final days of October!
