-Report cards went home on Friday. The envelope contains the third quarter report card, any awards your child received for the quarter, and also your child's Terra Nova scores from the assessments we took in January. The purpose of the Terra Nova is to identify students who are gifted so they can be serviced in third grade. I do not yet have information on which students met the gifted requirements. If you have questions about your child's scores, please let me know.
*Please remember to remove the report card from the envelope, sign the envelope, and return it to school so it can be used one more time this year!
-This is only a four day week. There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 25th. Spring break is 3/25-4/3. School resumes April 4th. There will be NO HOMEWORK assigned over the break, but I do encourage students to keep up with their nightly reading.
-Thursday, 3/24, is spring picture day. This is also the day we will be viewing Charlotte's Web!
-Tuesday, 4/5, is our field trip to La Comedia. More information will be coming as we draw closer to the date!
-Moms, mark your calendars for Thursday, May 5th! Our annual Mother's Day Poet-Tea will be that afternoon. It's a special event you won't want to miss. More information will be coming as we draw closer to the date!
-Many thanks to everyone who sent in tissues. We (hopefully) have enough to get us through the rest of the year!
This week we will be learning...
Word Study: Our spelling patterns for the week are aw and au. Our sight words are: more, another, leave, hand, better
Math: We will continue exploring methods for double digit addition using different strategies and mental math.
Reading: We will be reviewing nonfiction text features and looking at how they contribute to and clarify nonfiction texts.
Writing: Our poetry unit continues! This week we will be learning about and writing many different types of poetry, including found poems, mask poems, and color poems.
Social Studies: This week we will be studying different kinds of maps and learning how to use a compass rose and a map key to interpret them.
Poetry: Our poem for the week is called "Mystery Flower."
Have a great week, and since I won't post again until April, I wish all of you a wonderful, restful spring break!
