We are in the midst of cold and flu season, and we're going through our tissues, hand sanitizer, and wet wipes quickly. If you are able to send in any of these items, it would be much appreciated. Many thanks to those who have already sent something!
Due to another short week last week, we will be continuing with many of the same topics of study:
This week we will be learning...
Math: We are continuing to explore efficient strategies for adding large double-digit numbers using tens and ones. We will also begin to work on some double-digit subtraction!
Reading: We will be using our favorite website, Wonderopolis.org, to learn about main idea in nonfiction texts. The main idea is what a text is mostly about. There is usually an overall idea that the text is based on. In addition, a nonfiction text is often broken into different sections, and each of these sections will have a mini main idea that is related to the overall main idea.
Writing: As we continue our study of informative/explanatory writing, we will be learning about how to find and include important facts/details which are related to the topic that is established in the lead. We will also begin learning about different types of conclusions.
Poetry: Our poem this week is called, "The Vacuum Cleaner's Revenge."
Word Study: Our spelling patterns for the week are:
Short –a and Long –a (CVCe, CVVC –ai, and Open Syllable –ay)
-Short –a (CVC): glass, past, stand
-Long –a (CVCe): trade, brave, shape
-Long –a (CVVC): grain, nail, gain
-Long –a (CVV): play, clay, say
Sight Words I Can Spell: ride, good, any, about, around
Sight Words I Can Read: more, another, leave, hand, better
Social Studies: We will be using a variety of resources to continue our study of famous Americans.
Fingers crossed for a week of tamer weather!
