-Don't forget that students are allowed to wear costumes to school tomorrow! Please review the guidelines:
- Students may wear their costume to school, however, no time will be given to change into their costume at school. Please make sure that your child's costume is comfortable. They must be able to participate in all activities during the school day including gym, art and any other special classes or learning planned for that day.
- Teachers will not be able to assist with any costume preparation for students. Any face make-up must be applied at home. Also, face paint and any accessories related to violence or scary themes are not allowed.
- If your child rides the bus the costume must allow them to sit properly on the bus and be within their seat space, so cannot take up other student's bus seat area.
- No masks will be permitted. Please leave all masks at home.
- No weapons, scary or gory costumes will be permitted!
- No clown costumes or clown make up will be permitted.
-Many thanks to all the parents I met with last week. It was a pleasure sharing all the great things your children are doing at school! The second night of Parent-Teacher Conferences is this Thursday evening. Please refer to the Google Doc to see your scheduled time:
-On Friday of this week, we will be visited by Local 12 meteorologist John Gumm! Mr. Gumm will be doing some interactive weather experiments with us and talking about his journey to becoming a meteorologist. This will be a perfect culmination to our study of weather and clouds!
-If you have not signed and returned your child's report card envelope, please do so ASAP. This lets me know that you received it, and it also allows me to reuse the envelope.
-Please remember that Tuesday, November 8th there is NO SCHOOL for students.
This week we will be learning...
Math: Our study of subtraction strategies continues. This week we will focus on solving subtraction problems with multiple steps.
Word Study: Our spelling concept for the week is Beginning "s" Blends.
Examples: scan, skin, smash, snap, spot, stop
Students have been taught all of the sounds needed to read and spell with common blends. However, students must now become familiar with specific blends and learn to recognize them as units that work together at the beginning and/or end of words.
Our sight words are: made, run, gave
Reading: Our study of nonfiction begins as we explore some nonfiction texts and look closely at nonfiction text features and how they can add to and help us understand what we're reading.
Writing: This week we are beginning our animal research projects! Over the weeks leading up to winter break, students will select animals of interest, research the animals, compose reports, and create culminating projects to teach others about their animals.
Science: Is air something or nothing? This week we will be doing a variety of experiments to help us answer this puzzling question!
Poetry: Our poem for the week is called, "Busted."
Have a wonderful week!
