The end of the year is a very busy time. I will be updating the list of upcoming events weekly, so please be sure to look ahead at what's coming up:
-Monday, April 27th we will be taking a walking field trip to the Butler Tech Farm located right next to our campus. We will be watching an equestrian demonstration, learning about pet safety, and going on an animal scavenger hunt! Our class is scheduled to go from 12:25-1:30. On this day, all students will need to pack their lunches and wear their class t-shirts and tennis shoes. If you volunteered to chaperon, please meet us at school at 12:10. You will be assigned a group of students to supervise during the trip. It's going to be a great day of hands-on learning!
-Our Mother's Day Poet-Tea will be the afternoon of Thursday, May 7th from 2:30-3:15. Moms are invited to our classroom to hear the poetry we've been writing, watch an end-of-the-year slideshow, and share some treats. This is always one of my favorite events of the year, and the students are very excited! If you haven't already returned your RSVP, please do so ASAP!
-There is NO SCHOOL for students on Friday, May 8th.
-Friday, May 15th is our day to shop at the BOGO book fair. This is a great opportunity to stock up on books for summer reading!
-Field Day is scheduled for Thursday, May 21st from 12:30-3:00. More information to come!
-During the last week of school, we will be doing a hands-on building activity and we are in need of your recyclables! We need as many clean, recyclable items as possible. These would include: egg cartons, toilet paper and paper towel tubes, plastic bottles (all kinds), plastic jars (all kinds), two liters, milk jugs, plastic fruit cartons, etc., etc., etc. We will take anything and everything, as long as it's clean!
-There is NO SCHOOL for students on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th.
-The third and fourth quarter awards assembly is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26th at 1:00. More information to come!
-The last day of school for students is Thursday, May 28th!
This week we will be learning...
Math: We will wrap up our study of strategies for adding and subtracting three digit numbers and will move on to learning about measurement.
Reading: After looking closely at possessives last week, this week we will learn more about contractions and how they are different from possessives. We will be looking for examples of contractions in our books and practicing writing contractions ourselves.
Writing: Our study of poetry continues! This week we will be learning about and writing shape poems. Shape poems are visually interesting because they take on the form of their topic. Check out this example of a shape poem (author unknown):
Science: We will be extending what we learn about animals from the Butler Tech walking field trip by reviewing different animal habitats found in Ohio.
Poetry: Our poem for the week is called, "Spring." Hopefully this week feels a little more like spring too!
Have a wonderful week!
