Many, many thanks to everyone who donated an item (or items!) to our classroom last week. It's much appreciated!
T-shirt will be due this Friday, August 30th. Most of you picked up your t-shirts and instructions at open house. If you didn't make it to open house, your t-shirt and instructions went home on the first day of school. Don't forget to bring your finished project with you on Friday!
This week we will be learning...
Math: We will be practicing efficient strategies for adding, talking about digital and analog clocks, and reviewing coin values.
Reading: Last week, we learned about strategies growing readers use. We know that growing readers pick books that are interesting and "just right," and they stick with the books they choose. We will continue practicing these strategies, and we will also begin examining how a book's characters can change throughout a story.
Writing: What do you do when you're trying to write a story and you get stuck? One strategy growing writers use is to draw ideas from memories. We will spend this week brainstorming other ideas for topics as we prepare to write our own stories.
Poetry: Each week we will study a different poem. We examine what the poem is about, figurative language, author's crafts, etc. Our poem this week is called, "A True Friend."
Word Study: We will be practicing reading and spelling words with short a and long a.
Science: This year, we will be studying a tiny habitat within our own classroom. We will be watching to see how the habitat changes over time. Right now, our habitat contains only dirt. We have made predictions about possible changes that might take place, and this week, we will be adding to our habitat!
Have a great week!
